Los Angeles Visa Lawyers
What do I need to do in order to visit the U.S. from another country?
Every year thousands of people apply for visas to come to the United States. They come seeking work opportunities (via work visas), to advance their education (via a student visa), or even to seek permanent residency. There are, however, instances when family or friends from another country may simply wish to visit the U.S.
There are basic requirements which must be met when applying for a visa to visit the United States, and these requirements include:
- Confirmation that the visit is temporary,
- You must possess a valid passport,
- You must agree to leave the United States at the designated time,
- In most cases, you must show proof of a foreign residence,
- You must have proof of financial support, and
- You must meet admissibility requirements or have a waiver of inadmissibility.
This is where having an attorney work with you on your visa application is a smart move, because while many visitor immigration applications are relatively simple and your attorney will be able to easily guide you through the process, other applications may require quite a bit more work. Difficulties stemming from past immigration violations, health issues and criminal records may be brought to light and make a person inadmissible to the United States.
